Impacts of climate change on critical infrastructure

Malfunctions in energy infrastructures can have serious consequences for the economy, society and critical resources. In this project, the vulnerability of the energy system to technical, natural and societal hazards will be studied. Hazards influenced by climate change are of particular interest.

Joint activity with SWEET

The impact of climate change on critical infrastructures is being investigated in a project being carried out as a joint activity of NCCS-Impacts and the SWEET funding programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE).

In August 2024, the RECIPE (Resilient Infrastructure for the Swiss Energy Transition) consortium was confirmed as the sixth NCCS-Impacts project. The consortium members at ETH Zurich, EPFL, Swisscom, Infras, University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and zoï Environment Network will address the technical, natural and societal hazards of critical infrastructure to investigate the resilience of the Swiss energy system in the age of climate change.
